Project Hope

Posted on 26 September 2015

In response to the global refugee crisis, Cardinal Thomas Collins has launched "Project Hope," a special emergency appeal. This 100-day campaign aims to raise $3 million in order to settle 100 refugee families in the Archdiocese of Toronto as soon as possible. The effort will also require 100 volunteer committees to assist with settlement services.

Fr. Pat, and Maureen Donaghy, will form a committee here at St. Edward's parish, to work closely with the Office of Refugees of the Archdiocese. If interested in joining this committee, leave your name and contact information with Josie Paladino, parish secretary, at 416-221-9131. Over the first week of October, the list will be compiled.

Fr. Pat wishes St. Edward's to support a family of four, to approximately $30,000. You can also donate through the parish with a cheque made payable to St. Edward's Church -- Project Hope. We shall be working closely with Luciano Moro, Outreach Worker for the Office of Refugees. Please keep all our efforts, and persons impacted, in your prayers.

For more information, view the Archdiocese press release on Project Hope here.

Sacrament Registrations

Posted on 12 September 2015

Important Dates:          Monday October 5th at 7:00 PM (Mandatory Information Session for First Reconciliation and First Communion)

Tuesday October 6th at 7:00 PM (Grade 7 Confirmation Registration)

Thursday October 8th at 7:00 PM (Grade 8 Confirmation Registration)

Students who attend our Catholic schools, public or private schools, and who wish to be prepared for the Sacraments of First Reconciliation, First Communion, or Confirmation, are required to register for the sacraments through their local parish.  While the priest works closely with the students and teachers at the Catholic schools, the church is the primary place of registration since the Sacraments are celebrated at the parish where the students attend Mass. Below are the dates and times for this year's Registration.

Parents/Guardians who wish to register their children for the Sacraments of First Reconciliation and First Communion are required to attend a Registration and Information Session at the Church on Monday October 5th at 7:00 PM. Please bring a photocopy of your child's baptismal certificate; if you do not have one, simply contact the parish where your child was baptized and they will provide you an updated one.

The Cardinal has moved the age of Confirmation to Grade 7.  As such, this year, we will be preparing both the Grade 8 and Grade 7 students for the Sacrament of Confirmation. This will be a more demanding year and thus will require two separate Registration Nights.  Kindly note the following dates for Registration for Confirmation, to be held at the church.

Tuesday October 6th at 7:00 PM (Grade 7)

Thursday October 8th at 7:00 PM (Grade 8)

Parents are asked to bring with them a copy of the student's baptismal certificate.  If unable to find one, simply contact the church where the child was baptized and they will provide you an updated one.

At each of the Registration Nights, Fr. Pat will outline the program of study for the respective schools, and the program for those attending public schools.  For students attending public schools, classes will be held at the parish church; a schedule for those classes will be provided to the parents at the Registration Night. There will be some option of dates for the celebration of the Sacraments and parents will be asked to sign up for the dates which best suit them at the Registration Nights.  The following are the dates that have been approved for St. Edward's Parish:

Saturday, May 28th, 2016   at 11:00 AM
Sunday, May 29th, 2016    at 2:00 PM.

Saturday, April 30th, 2016    at 11:00 AM.
Sunday, May 1st, 2016         at 2:00 PM.
